Ahhh , who could forget the good old 1980s? If you had approved credit, you too could pay a stupid low ten percent interest rate on a new car loan. If you listened to popular music, then it's likely that Ratt and Madonna were your cup of tea. If you followed popular trends, it's likely that you too had jeans that were acid-washed and wore a mullet held up by fifty gallons of VOS hair spray. If you had plenty of money to spend on computer entertainment, then you probably hopped on the Atari bandwagon right before everyone switched to Nintendo.

If you were in the market for an American pony car back then, you also had a few options. Of course, you had the obligatory Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. You also still had the Pontiac Firebird. If neither of those three piqued your interest, Chrysler also made the Dodge Daytona available to you. (Yeah, there was the related Chrysler Laser, too, but no one cares.)

This promotional video for the Daytona dates back to 1987 and it's the perfect hulking memento of America's Reagan-era days. It even has Kenny Loggins! So pull up a chair and stiffen up that hair and pray to god that the "dynamic" '80s editing doesn't trigger an epileptic seizure (seriously).

I can't help it, I love 80's promo and sales training videos. I think this one for the Chevy Celebrity is my favorite, though.

The Daytona was famously wrong-wheel drive. It was, after all, based around the K-Car platform and all of its K-Car-ness.

...and if you wanted to borrow any money, you would pay up to 18%. Never financed a car then, but I remember how expensive it was to borrow.

Re-nau had 10.9 percent financing on the Encore back in '84.

I think Chevy put more effort into this video than they put into the Chevy Celebrity.

So did TV in the 80's actually sound this bad?

Yes, TV's only had one little 5 watt paper speaker. Stereo TV's were just starting to catch on but they were pretty expensive. I remember the first Stereo TV we got was a 27" Sony console model with stereo speakers, It was 1500 bucks but man it was a sweet TV compared to the competition.

I had a similar TV when I was a teenager. I picked it up off a curb for free. I used it for 3 years. untill I got 42" TV for free. I set the 42 on top on the old 27" console lol.

My dad still has the old Sony console, it's used as a table in the never used living room, It still works great though. I doubt our fancy LCD and Plasma TVs will still be working in 10 years, let alone 30.

And be able to serve as a table, or a nightstand, or TV stand,

This was actually pretty badass, even if it is a total ripoff of Miami Vice driving scenes. In fact, that makes it even more badass.

Note: to make something badass, base it on something badass.

Easy to make fun of them now, but back then it was a pretty decent handling and quick for its day affordable sport coupe. The original looked better though, before the retractable headlights. Long live the 80's!!!
